When was the American School founded?

In 1946 Americans and Hondurans founded what is now the American School.The first principal was Mrs. Mary Sager. This school was started in Tegucigalpa, near what is now Valley Park, with 42 primary pupils, after that both levels covered by the agreements issued by the Ministry of Education No. 1029 of May 3, 1946 and No. 498 of August 21, 1948. In 1954 while Attorney Augusto Rodriguez Ulloa was President of the Board with the assistance of Mr. Webb, representing the American Embassy, obtained the donation of the land where now is located. The school began with correspondence courses with the University of Nebraskaand the University of Galvet, under the supervision of an American professor. In 1961 graduated its first Bachelor of Science and Letters, the now Abog. Orbeliani Andino Lopez, prior to this date only students graduating from High School. In early 1962 they moved to the current building. In 1996, the American School held under the coordination of several teachers and alumni, 50 years and likewise celebrated in 2006 its 60.

Who is the current owner of the school?

The American School is owned by all parents, who are proud of belonging to a nonprofit society as is the SEIT (American Educational Society of Tegucigalpa)where all income is reinvested in the education of their children.

What is S.E.I.T.?

S.E.I.T. is an acronym used to refer to the Inter-American Educational Society of Tegucigalpa to which they all parents belong. In itself, this is the official name of what is known colloquially as the American School. Parents are represented by a Board of Directors (elected by the General Assembly), whose proposals are brought to general meetings (for which are held to the Parents for various print media and Eagle Courier) and carried out in August and May each year. What is the student population? Which is the teacher / student ratio?

To date, the American School has a student population of 1140 students (Nursery to twelfth grade) of which 95% are Hondurans, 3% US Citizens and 2% other nationalities. The teacher student ratio is approximately 20 students per teacher.

In how many areas is the school divided?

Following the scheme of American and Honduran study, the school has four educational areas are: Pre-School (Nursery, Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten), Primary (First to Fifth Grade) Middle School (sixth through eighth grade) and High(ninth to twelfth grade). On reaching sixth grade, students are part of the Middle School following the American plan, as well as handle the requirements of the Honduran plan culminating in his graduation at the end of the year.
